Today will talk about simple ways of wireing wich I use in my process of flower making.
Now when I’m working with my gumpaste, I want to be able to roll it out, so I use a pasta machine. The pasta machine allows me to get a uniform thickness. If I need to thin it out even further, I can use my fondant pin. I prefer an acrylic fondant pin, instead of a plastic one or one that’s made from wood, because it’s a little bit heavier and will help me to achieve the thickness that I’m looking for.
Once it’s rolled out, then I look to my cutters. I have a variety of cutters in front of me. I have leaf cutters that can be used, or petal cutters. All sorts of different ones. A sugar artist can really go crazy in buying all the different cutters. But we want to make sure that we have a few different kinds on hand.
Once those pieces are cut out, very, very important to have a 'stay fresh map'. A stay fresh map is a plastic sheet. Air is the enemy of gumpaste. We really want to make sure that our gumpaste doesn’t dry out too quickly. Once it’s rolled out, we’ll keep it covered up and underneath our plastic. So this way, it doesn’t dry out until we’re ready to use it. Then, finally, when we’re making our petals, a lot of times, we’ll use a veiner, to get some texture onto our petals and these can just be purchased in craft supply stores or in baking supply stores.
Sometimes, we will look for getting a little bit of ruffliness on the edge of our petals, and that’s where a ball tool comes in handy. And we use a ball tool on a flower foam mat. that will allow us to make super ruffly petals.
Finally, we need to dry our petals before we’re ready to use them. So I have a variety of pieces of equipment that I’ll use to dry them. Sometimes, it’s something as simple as a piece of bubble wrap, or there are special flower-formers that can be used. And a lot of times, I’ll save some old egg cartons that I can use to dry my flowers in as well.
What is a grooved board /Cell-board? These grooved boards have a little ridge in them so when you roll the paste it create this ridge you can use to insert your wires in. It is very handy when making lots and lots of petals. Simplifies the work load. Do you know that there are many sugar flower experts that do not actually use these ridge boards at all? Yup! That’s by choice. As an example – Alan Dunn is one of my idols and in most if not all the video he does not depend on any tools. He even softens the petals on the palms of his hands rather than the foam pad. So do not feel that you have to have these boards in order to make your sugar flowers. It’s always nice to have the right tools. They make life easy but we must not let the lack of tools stop us from making some things.
For example If you do not have a foam pad you can use a piece of sponge! Just make sure it is clean and not used for anything other than your flowers. As I mentioned above you can also use the palm of your hands unless you have sweaty hands. If you do not have the ball tool you can use the back of your small rolling pin! or even the back of a smooth spoon.

If you are planning to make sugar flowers often then investing in some good sugar tools might be the right place to start such as the Celboard, Foam pad for gum paste flowers, foam drying tray for gumpaste flowers, florist wires, florist tape, wire cutters, Needle nose pliers,tweezer, etc.
1.First metod of inserting a wire is to roll your gumpaste nice and thin. Place the wire(pass it to glue first ) in the center. Fold the paste over then roll some more – but roll around the wire, not over the wire. So you have a little thicker center line but still a nice thin petal. Now cut the petal using your cutter. Place the cutter making sure the wire is in the center. Now continue to vain and thin your petals. Don't forget that the scissor is you friend and if you have rough edges just cut it. Let it dry, by helping it to take the natural shape of the petal using the material you prefer.
2. Second metod I use to wire a petal or a leaf is using the grooved board so roll a piece of gumpaste over the grooved board nice and thin, take it out and insert the wire(pass it through glue first) into the ridge created. Cut the leaf using a cutter (I used a plunger cutter in my case). Place the cutter making sure the wire is in the center. With a ball tool thin the edges and with a two side veiner make the print then shape the leaf as you wish, close to the reality.
3.Third metod of wiring I use is to insert a piece of gumpaste into the wire( don't forget to pass the wire through glue) and the rool it thinly with two fingers from center to edges, repeating the process until you find it thin enough, take a little glue on a brush and paint it just one side; roll another piece of dough and stick the already rolled wire, use a cutter to obtain the desired form and take the excess of. then thin it out and vein it as usual.
4. How to Wire Gumpaste Petals The Quick Way
After spending a day making wired petals for roses, I thought that there had to be a way to make the process go faster. I came up with this quick method that let me make 7 petals in 10 minutes on my first try, which is a lot faster than I had been doing them.
Now , I’ll be the first to say that I can’t be the first person to think of this because it seems so obvious.
Roll a long strip of gumpaste out, then trim off the edges with a cutter so that the long edges are straight.
Brush some water along the lower edge of the strip to dampen the gumpaste. This should only be damp, not soaking wet.
Put the wires down along the damp edge, spacing them about as far apart as the size of the petals that you’re going to be cutting.
Fold the gumpaste over onto itself and match the edges up. (You can also do this by folding the gumpaste over like a book or by putting wires along both edges, then putting two pieces on each other so that the entire width of the paste is used. This would be to make a lot of smaller petals on both sides of the gumpaste strip, or to cut larger petals that need the full width of the strip.)
Take a small rolling pin and press the two edges together around the wires, but only roll very gently over the wires themselves so that you don’t shift them around. Roll out the gumpaste starting at the top of the wires and going away from them so that the length of the strip is at least the length of the cutter that you’ll be using. Before cutting the petals out, run a small spatula under the gumpaste to make sure it isn’t sticking to the rolling surface.
Cut the petals out, placing the cutters centered on the wires. You now have mass-produced wired petals ready to be shaped. Put them under plastic wrap or into a stay fresh mat until you need them so that they don’t dry out. Shape the petals as you usually do. You can roll them out thinner using a rolling pin, or use a two-sided petal press to make sure that the two pieces of gumpaste are really adhered to each other, then cup them as usual with the ball tool, etc. The pressure of the ball tool will help to make sure that the gumpaste is stuck to itself.
If you do find that the gumpaste is separating, you’re not pressing hard enough at the beginning when you press down on the sections with the rolling pin, or you’re using too much water to stick the sheets together.
Once you try this you can adjust the thickness of the gumpaste to be thicker or thinner, however you find it best to work with.

Astăzi vom vorbi despre moduri simple de a introduce firul de sarma in petale/frunze, metode pe care le folosesc in procesul meu de fabricare a florilor de zahar. Acum se taie petala cu ajutorul decupatorului. Se pune dispozitivul de tăiere asigurându-vă că firul este în centru. Nu uitati că foarfecul este prietenul dvs si dacă aveți margini aspre pur și simplu le taiati. Lasati sa se usuce, ajutându-o să ia forma naturală a petale folosind materialul de uscare pe care îl preferați.
2. Pentru a doua metoda am folosit placa multifunctionala cu striatii, astfel încat rulati subtire o bucată de gumpaste peste placa, scoateți-o și introduceți firul de sarma, trecut prin lipici intai, în denivelarea creata. Se taie frunza folosind un decupator (am folosit un cutter cu piston, în cazul meu). Se pune dispozitivul de tăiere asigurându-vă că firul este în centru. Cu instrumentul de modelare cu bila subțiati marginile frunzei și cu un veiner din doua parti imprimati, apoi indoiti frunza dupa cum doriți.
3. Metoda a treia, se introduce o bucată de gumpaste în sârmă (nu uitați să treceti sârma prin lipici) și rulati subțire, cu două degete de la centru spre margini, repetand procesului până când devine suficient de subțire, se ia un pic de lipici pe o pensula și pensulati doar pe o singura parte firul; separat, intindeti o altă bucată de gumpaste și lipiti sarma, utilizați un cutter pentru a decupa forma dorită, indepartati excesul apoi imprimati-o ca de obicei.
4. Cum să obtineti mai multe petale prin metoda rapid. Dupa ce am petrecut o zi lucrand la petalele cu fir pentru trandafiri, m-am gândit că trebuie să existe o cale de a face procesul sa mearga mai repede. Această metodă rapidă, imi permite sa fac 7 petale în 10 minute. Probabil nu sunt prima persoană care s-a gândit la acest lucru, deoarece este atât de evident. ( ca o alta metoda, puteți face acest lucru prin plierea pastei peste ca o carte sau de a pune fire de-a lungul ambelor margini, apoi se pune două bucăți unul pe celălalt, astfel încât este utilizată întreaga lățime a pastei. Acest lucru se poate folosi pentru a face o mulțime de petale mai mici pe ambele părți ale benzii gumpaste, sau să se decupeze petale mari, care au nevoie pe întreaga lățime a benzii.) Ia un sucitor mic si subtire și apăsa cele două margini împreună în jurul firelor, dar rulati cu grija, foarte ușor peste firele astfel încat sa nu schimbati pozitia firului.
